Discipline Policy
Each student is expected to behave in an appropriate manner fit for a public classroom, and will be held accountable for their actions and behavior while in class; this includes treating the school, teacher, others and self in a respectable manner. If a student violates the classroom rules,
appropriate action will follow to remedy the situation.
HORSE PLAY DURING LAB TIME:
Due to safety concerns, if a student, or students are caught horse playing during lab, it is imperative that I take evasive action. Therefore, depending on the severity of the situation, I will either reduce points or remove the students from lab which will result in a zero for the lab. During which, the student will sit off to the side while the rest of the class continues.

Grading
- CLASS and LAB ASSIGNMENTS: Class and Lab Assignments are worth 40% of your grade. We will be working on these daily and should be completed in class. Additional assignments outside of class may also apply. Please have your internet forms filled out and filed with the media center for any future internet assignments. There is an online textbook available. For late work, please view the Late Work Policy below.
- MINI-SCIENCE FAIR: During the 1st Semester, students are expected to finish an individualized science fair from home.
- END OF YEAR ASSESSMENT: At the end of the year, there will be a final comprehensive test administered for those who receive a final score of 3 or less on SAGE (or less than 52/65 for the alternative).
- ESSENCIAL MASTERY TESTS (also referred to as “tests” or EMTs): EMTs are a 15 question test and is worth 60% of your grade. Mastery is a score of 12 or better (80%). Students who have passed the first time round will only have 4 consecutive TEAL days starting the day after the initial test date to retake it for a better score. Those who have not mastered the concepts will be required to remediate during TEAL prior to retaking an alternative version of the test. (*See conditions under “TEST REMEDIATION”).
- TEST REMEDIATION: Each student is able to retake the current test for a better score based on the amount of retakes. Mastery (“Passing”) is considered a score of 80% or higher. Alternative EMTs are available after a remediation packet has been completed during TEAL. Remediation begins after the EMT has been administered in all class periods. Remediation for the alternative version of the test is only available for 3 weeks.
Students have 3 opportunities to retake the current EMT after remediation. The final recorded score is based on the number of times the student has remediated and retaken the test. Each retake results in a maximum cap score.
- The first retake is for full credit. The second retake, the score is capped at 12 points. The third retake the score is capped at 11 points. On the third retake, students are allowed to use their remediation packet during the test.
- Beginning on the 3rd week of remediation, if the student has not mastered or passed the test, an email will be sent to the student and their parents / guardians detailing what steps they need to take for remediation. Students will be also be requested for TEAL.
Students with accommodations will need to speak with the teacher.
*Values & remediation program are subject to change.
Grade Scale
Scores are then totaled and a grade is given according to the following schedule of percentages.
Late Work Policy
Each student will be expected to finish all assignments on time. All lab packets are due on the day we do the test and are considered late if not. If late, an automatic drop of up to 10% will be applied the first week, 20% the next week and 30% the third week. After three weeks, the max score any student can receive is 50% of the total value.
ATTENDANCE AND TARDIES:
Attendance and Tardies will be dealt with as stated in the school policy. It is your responsibility to makeup work for absences. You have ONE WEEK after your return from your absence to complete it for FULL CREDIT. To access any missing coursework assignments please go to my classroom website listed above. The lab sheets are all available in your packet.
Media Release
During the year, many students are absent from labs – and may also need to refer back to a lab or concept at the end of the year for the SAGE review. To assist with these students, I like to show what students did in class – to give them a visual idea of what we did during labs by posting photos of a handful of students on my website doing labs. Some of these photos I may relay to the year book and schools Jumbo-tron and school newsletter.
If you are comfortable with me posting a photo of your son/daughter (names are withheld), then please take time to review and sign the Media Release Form.
Please click on the link below and fill out the electronic form - then click to submit it. Thanks once again, and hope to have a great year.
